When a blog is pinged, it tells a web blog tracking system that your blog has been updated. Pinging is the process of telling tracking services that a sites content has been updated.

Think of ping services like search engine spiders ,both scan sites looking for information on content, and both report that information back to their site. But a ping service only reports back new blog posts or new site contetnt.

Those who haven't read your blog before will see the ping and may visit your site and become a follower .
