If you have not noticed beside my url in the address bar(example directly above) you can see a cool little image of a globe , small additions to your site like this will keep your visitors coming back beleive it or not . When they bookmark your site and see it in their list of bookmarks it will stand out and they are more likely to visit again. Not only that but you have to admit it adds a nice personal touch to the site . So you ask how do you get one yourself for your site. Lets walk through this step by step.

Step 1
The first thing your going to need to do is find a small image like 15x15 to use as an icon for your url , you can go to google and type in favicons under images and it should produce thousands of favicon pictures in which you can use as your websites icon. After you save the file your going to want to go into the pictures properties by right clicking the picture with your mouse and going to properties. Then you will want to check if the picture extension is .ico , if it is your good to go for the next step , if not your going to have to convert the jpg to a favicon image which is .ico.

Step 2

Once you have your favicon icon ready you are going to change the name of your favicon picture too favicon.ico then you will have to upload it into your root directory in which you are hosting your website. After this simply put the code above (make sure you change my site to your site) into your website head and update your index file. You can also add the code to all your pages if your website has more then one page.

And Boom you have a fancy icon in your address bar when your site loads . :)
